I don't know if this is really a bug, or just my stupidity...

It all started when an image file that I included as content could not be found where all the other image files I had included as content could be found.

I then generated a recursive listing of all the files from the baseDir on down and found it... (See the screen capture of the MonoDevelop window for details)

Along with every file that was ever included as content along the development time line. Every stinking one! Even the ones long removed and deleted! I have demonstrated that they are really there and can be displayed as viable images. Especially troubling are the 10Mb database and large (10,000 x 8,000) pixel images that are duplicated.

If there is only one "real" copy of a file, and the rest are just pointers, then there is no size issue, but why was the the last file included as content not treated the same as all the earlier files?

Is this the correct/expected behavior?

Thanks,

Walt Hensley

Sorry but I cannot see your attachment - it's only 4kb and looks empty to me (from safari). Could you try to attach it again (and check if the one present is valid for you) ? Thanks

There is a bug in the iOS simulator* that makes it _only_ update files, i.e. it does not delete files that are not anymore part of a project (and the simulator handle itself the copying of every fiels). This has caused some problem in the past with stale assemblies (newer MonoTouch release have a workaround for this).

So "correct" behavior ? no, "expected" ? kind of... but a future release of MonoTouch will have a more general workaround (i.e. not just ignoring stale assemblies).

In the mean time you can use "Reset Content and Settings..." inside the iOS Simulator application. That will remove everything (and every application, settings...) and claim back all disk space.

* it does not affect the application being downloaded and installed inside your devices.
