Description Alistair Leslie-Hughes 2013-02-05 04:10:49 UTC
Download SQLManagementStudio_x86_ENU.exe from
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=7593

Install cabextract if required.
run "cabextract "SQLManagementStudio_x86_ENU.exe"
Change to the x86 directory.
Run "mono setup100.exe"

The exception "System.TypeLoadException" is being thrown since mono thinks the Entry Point resides in another assembly.

The class "Microsoft.SqlServer.Chainer.Setup.Setup" can be found in the setup100.exe but mono is trying to load the "Microsoft.SqlServer.Chainer.Setup" assembly.

I'm not expecting the installer to get very far after the TypeLoadException issue is fixed since it's a windows based program. (p-invoke), but with wine it might just work ;)

Any Ideas?

The installer is a windows binary and not a dotnet assembly. You can try to run it with wine instead.
